6:50-7:30: Kate Stevens

For Kate Stevens, a chance find of an old ukulele at a garage sale 3 years ago was the catalyst for playing more music and song writing.  At 15, Kate’s voice belies her years.

7:45-9:15: The New Street Band

Picture
Local favourites from just over on New Street in Inglewood, the New Street Band has been a going concern since 2003, playing original music that draws on a wide range of influences and traditions to create "funky folk blues".

9:30-10:10: Terez Goulet, solo singer-songwriter

Picture
Terez Goulet is an 18 year old singer songwriter who began performing at the age of 9.  She has been a finalist many times in the Calgary Folk Festival’s Sonic Youth Singer Songwriters competition and a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting competition. Most recently she performed on stage with Keith Urban in Spokane.

10:20-11:00: Vincent Lee Christianson

Picture
Vincent is 17 years old and a lover of almost all music. Because of that, he makes and performs everything from folk to hiphop to electronic to classical, but says his main interest is folk. Vincent was the 2014 winner of the Calgary Folk Festival’s Sonic Youth Singer Songwriter competition.

ROMPIN' & FOOT-STOMPIN' at the July 2015 Night Market

6:00-7:30 PM
John Rutherford and the Big Blues Trio

John Rutherford is a singer/songwriter and guitarist based in Calgary, Alberta whose work, laced with the tonality, phrasing and spirit of the blues, fuses a broad and eclectic range of influences creating a sound distinctly his own. Amidst a long and storied career Rutherford released his debut solo recording in 2010 called Echo Broadcast. Pulling together the various strands of his musical experience and artistic vision, Rutherford's recent work skillfully dovetails a roots/blues/folk/rock vibe with an imaginative and modern songwriter’s take on the stories, legends, vintage instruments and the soul and feel of the blues.

The Foul English

“We love punk rock music, and that's what we play. Fast, aggressive, but fun. We're old dudes and we write about our adventures in the past, and our lives now. Some stories are only half remembered, and some have grown more bombastic with time.

The Foul English are 4 dads who play the classic style of punk rock they grew up with. Our brand of "Dadcore" is a mix of 1970s english punk and 1980s hardcore.”

Free pedicab rides at the market! Hail a friendly pedicab driver and take a ride up and down the market street and to nearby Inglewood shops and restaurants. Pedicabs will be circling around the market (10th Street SE, just off Inglewood's main street, 9th Avenue) - there's no fixed spot to wait for a ride. Just keep your eyes open and flag one down!
Picture
Things were a bit wet at our June market. But our July market was hot, dry, and filled with boot-stompin' fun! The August market featured sizzling latin dancing, pedicab rides, shops open late, Gravity's patio, music till midnight, hand-crafted artisan wares for sale, food trucks... and that special blend of urban fun we discovered last year when we started this surprisingly successful pop-up market series. What kind of magic is at work in Inglewood after the sun goes down? Come out and see for yourself!

presents: the 2014 Inglewood Night Market

What’s new for 2014?

After just one year, the Inglewood Night Market (presented by non-profit, 100% volunteer find it) has become a street party - the happiest community gathering place in Inglewood. With 2 blocks of arts & crafts vendors, local farm produce, crazily creative trunk sales, artists at work, tantalizing street food and live music, it’s much more than a market – it’s a happening.

And it’s that community vibe we’re building on. This year we’ll have bands and professional dancers who will literally get you dancing in the street.

Dancing in the Street
(all FREE!)

June: Indie bands including Locomotive Ghost from 6-11:30pm, with dancers inciting the crowd to rock your booty in the street, 8-10pm;

July: Live foot-stompin’ country music 6-11:30pm, with old-fashioned Stampede Square-dancing in the street for all ages, 8-10pm;

August: Latin music from 6-11:30pm, and steamy Latin dance in the street 8-10pm++, with pro dancers teaching salsa and other hot Latin moves;

September: El Pulpo Mecanico, high-tech DJs and as it gets dark, the dancing grand finale: Just Dance on a giant screen!

Join the Fun!

If you're interested in participating as a vendor, please take a look at our vendor information and contact us at [email protected].

If you'd like to volunteer with us, we'd love to have you! Our small team of friends and neighbours had a blast putting on last year's markets. We'd welcome your help, whether you'd like to be part of our planning team or just coming out to lend a hand on market night. And who knows, you might get a free find it t-shirt!

More Vendors, More Fun

The number of vendors will increase to 60 from 40 (we’ll keep the focus on hand-made arts and crafts, interactive family-oriented activities and local farm produce). And augmenting Café Gravity’s patio, BITE Groceteria is adding a new patio. Both patios will be expanded on market nights. This is where neighbours hang out together all evening, chatting with friends walking by.

Thanks for an amazing season!

Wow, did we ever go out with a bang! Talk about ending on a high note! This year, find it put on a series of Night Markets in Inglewood. We were off to a rainy start back in June, but by September, the Night Market had become a lot more than a market. The whole neighbourhood was chockablock with people and chatter and really great vibes. Stores and restaurants were packed. The market itself was so comfy and cool, a great place to browse and meet friends and just generally hang out. The weather was perfect. And the bands were fabulous - it was great to have the music permeating the site all night long, and M&M's steps were a natural place to sit and listen. Our guess for attendance was 1750-2000 people over the 5.5 hours - maybe more.

Thanks to Gravity Cafe and Bite Groceteria for truly being the heart of the market! And to our neighbours and sponsors, particularly Critical Mass, Little Rock, Lane Quinn, and John Kerr.

But mostly, thanks to all of you for coming out and helping us make this happen. It was a summer of great teamwork and fun.

If you like us and what we're doing, we could sure use a few more regulars on our team year round, planning new pop-up adventures! If that's too much for you, we hope we can call on you next year to help with find it events. Contact us if you'd like to be on our email list, or if you have any ideas you'd like to send our way.

Cheers
