Welcome to Reading Town
What's Reading Town? Here's what the National Reading Campaign says about it:
Calgary is Hosting its Very Own Reading Town Canada!
In Calgary, the communities of Inglewood and Ramsay will become the hub for Reading Town Canada!
All week long, reading will be woven into fun activities and lively interactive events designed for ‘kids’ of all ages! Community and business associations, local schools and businesses and early-literacy initiative – Calgary Reads – are all involved.
Already we have initial plans for: the official Mayor’s passing of Reading Town from Moose Jaw (2014) to Calgary and Charlottetown; Little Free Library (LFL) bike tour and a LFL building workshop; ‘Read Aloud’ picnics in local parks and an evening event at Limitless for ‘reading between the wines’; free book drops; author appearances and readings; a book exchange at the Lantern Church; Pizza Poetry; and much, much more!
Calgarians from across the city will flock to Inglewood and Ramsay to join in the fun.
Your group can host your own activity or event too. Let’s promote the joy of reading together! Be in touch with Calgary Reads to explore how you might like to participate.
Visit Calgary Reads for event updates as activities become confirmed.

find it presents a roving story for Reading Town:
Thank You for Playing
by Sarah L. Johnson (Calgary)
There is a game afoot, and our man Linc is only the latest in a very long line of players. Join him as he’s drawn into the mystery of Calgary’s oldest established community tradition.
Read your way through Inglewood and Ramsay! This new original story, Thank You for Playing, takes you on a secret route not just through neighbourhoods, but into the story itself. Starting at the Alexandra Centre at 9th Avenue and 9th Street SE, each page of this story is on a lawn sign, and each sign will tell you where to find the next one - twelve pages all together, with your walk woven right into the story!
Sarah L. Johnson lives in Calgary where she can be found reading, running, and kicking over rocks to see what’s underneath. Her short fiction has appeared in Room Magazine, Plenitude, Crossed Genres Magazine, and the Bram Stoker nominated Dark Visions 1. Her first novel, Infractus, will be published in late 2015. Visit her website at www.sarahljohnson.com
When: Anytime you like, beginning on May 2nd and ending on May 9th, 2015
Where: Start at the Alexandra Centre, 922 - 9th Avenue SE (at the corner of 9th Street and 9th Avenue SE) and end up at Café Gravity, 909 -10th Street SE
How: Plan for about an hour’s walk, including reading time. Suitable for all ages.

find it (Pop-ups in Inglewood & Ramsay) is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to animating the sister communities of Inglewood and Ramsay through pop-up arts, culture and food events. As we head into the 3rd year of our Inglewood Night Markets, we’re excited to be planning 3 big new initiatives for 2015 (think garage bands, sculpture mania, live music jams where you least expect them).
